The detail
HL7 v2 is the message format most hospital systems and analyzer middleware already speak. SamLab reconciles inbound result messages against the open order rather than trusting the message blindly, so a result cannot silently attach to the wrong patient when an order number is reused. This is gated to the Enterprise plan.
How it is set up

Confirm the HL7 version and the message types your counterpart system sends (ORU^R01 for results is the common case).

Map the sending system’s test identifiers to your SamLab catalogue once; the map is stored and reused.

Point the interface at the lab PC. Messages are held locally if the link drops and reconciled when it returns.

Which HL7 version does SamLab support?+
HL7 v2 message handling is available on the Enterprise plan. Versions differ enough in practice that we confirm against your actual message spec at a demo rather than publishing a blanket version claim. FHIR is a separate, newer standard and is on the roadmap, not shipped.
Is this the same as analyzer interfacing?+
Related but not identical. Most bench analyzers speak ASTM, not HL7 — see the ASTM page. HL7 matters when you are exchanging with a hospital information system, a referral lab or vendor middleware.
Do I need HL7 to connect my machines?+
Usually not. If your instruments speak ASTM over serial, that is handled without HL7 and without the Enterprise plan.
