Lab billing software that still bills when the internet is down
Billing is the one screen a diagnostic lab cannot afford to lose. If your software is cloud-only, an ISP outage means no invoice number, no receipt and no payment recorded — so the queue stops. SamLab bills locally: the invoice is generated, numbered, printed and recorded on your own machine, and syncs to the cloud once the connection returns.

What actually breaks when billing goes offline
Cloud-only lab software treats the invoice number as a server resource. When the connection drops, the client cannot reserve the next number in the series, so it refuses to issue a bill. The front desk stops and your day-book no longer ties out.
SamLab keeps the invoice series in the local database. The number is allocated inside the save transaction on your own machine — formatted as prefix, period and sequence (for example INV202600042) — so a bill can always be raised, printed and recorded with the connection down. The number shown in the Bill No box beforehand is an advisory preview, not a reservation; the final number is assigned when you save.
When invoices arrive later from a cloud restore or another device, SamLab lifts the local counter to the highest sequence already present before allocating the next one, so the following bill cannot collide with a number that was minted elsewhere.
Everything the counter needs on one screen
The billing screen is built around how an Indian lab counter actually works: a walk-in OPD patient, a referring doctor, a handful of tests, and a payment that is rarely a single clean amount.
- Discount entered as a flat ₹ amount or a percentage — toggled per bill
- Payment split across Cash, UPI, Bank and Credit on the same invoice
- Part payment supported: Net Amount, Total Paid and Pending Balance stay reconciled
- Zero-amount bills (no charge) and an Emergency / Urgent Reporting flag for priority work
- Tests added individually or as a package, each marked Analyzer, Manual or Outsource
- Corporate / B2B bills raised against a party and settled later through the Party Ledger
GST on lab billing — what is actually required
Most diagnostic and pathology services provided by a clinical establishment are exempt from GST in India, so a lab’s test invoices commonly carry no GST. That does not make GST irrelevant: labs still handle taxable supplies — consumables, certain non-diagnostic services, equipment and some B2B arrangements — and a registered lab must issue compliant documents for those. Confirm your lab’s own position with your accountant.
SamLab issues GST-ready invoices carrying your GSTIN and a compliant document format, so the taxable side of the business is covered without forcing GST onto exempt diagnostic tests.
Billing that feeds the rest of the lab
A bill is not an endpoint. Saving an invoice registers the patient, queues the ordered tests for result entry and updates the day-book. Where a referring doctor is attached, the bill is linked to that doctor, and their referral payout is calculated from the billed tests using the per-test rates you configure — payouts are then recorded separately on the doctor ledger rather than being posted at the counter.
The Bill Register, Patient Register, Corporate Register and Party Ledger all read the same local data, so the receptionist and the accountant see identical numbers without an export step.
What it costs
SamLab is a one-time licence starting at ₹3,000 (Express), with Pro, Executive and Enterprise tiers. There is no monthly subscription, no per-invoice charge and no seat-based billing fee; an optional AMC covers updates and priority support. Subscription competitors typically bill every month for the same counter.
Frequently asked questions
Can SamLab really generate a bill with no internet?+
Yes. The invoice is created, numbered, printed and recorded against a local database on your machine. Issuing or printing a bill never requires a connection; the cloud is used for backup and multi-branch sync once you are back online.
What happens to invoice numbers when the connection returns?+
The local series continues uninterrupted during the outage. If invoices later arrive from a cloud restore or another device, SamLab raises the local counter to the highest sequence already present before it allocates the next number, so the next bill cannot reuse one that was minted elsewhere.
Can one invoice be paid partly in cash and partly by UPI?+
Yes. A single bill can be split across Cash, UPI, Bank and Credit. SamLab keeps Net Amount, Total Paid and Pending Balance reconciled, so part-paid bills stay visible until they are settled.
Do I have to charge GST on pathology tests?+
Generally no — diagnostic services by a clinical establishment are largely GST-exempt in India, so test invoices typically carry no GST. Labs still need compliant documents for taxable supplies. Confirm your specific position with your accountant.
Is billing charged per invoice or per user?+
Neither. SamLab is a one-time licence from ₹3,000 covering Desktop, Web and Android, with no monthly subscription and no per-invoice fee. An optional AMC covers updates and priority support.
